If you are experiencing an emergency or need immediate assistance, dial 911. For non-emergencies, contact the Michigan City Police Department at (219) 874-3221.

To file a police report, you can:

  • Visit the Michigan City Police Department at 1201 E Michigan Blvd.
  • Call the non-emergency line at (219) 874-3221.
  • Speak with an officer who will guide you through the process.

Police reports can be requested through the Records Division:

  • In-Person: Visit the Records Division at MCPD Headquarters.
  • Phone: Call (219) 874-3221 Ext. 1060.
  • Fee: A small fee may apply.

To file a complaint about an officer or department matter:

  • In-Person: Visit the MCPD and ask for a Complaint Form.
  • By Phone: Contact the Office of Professional Standards at (219) 874-3221.
  • Complaints are confidential and will be thoroughly reviewed.

Apply for a handgun permit online through the Indiana State Police Firearms Licensing Portal:

All dogs and cats over 6 months old in Michigan City require a license.

  • In-Person: Submit an application with proof of rabies vaccination to the Records Division at MCPD.
  • Fee: $10.00

If your pet has been impounded:

  • Contact Animal Control at (219) 874-3221 Ext. 1042.
  • Provide proof of ownership and current rabies vaccination.
  • Pay a $50 redemption fee and obtain a City license if you are a resident.

A camera registry portal is now available with the Michigan City Police Department. By registering your cameras, it helps MCPD investigate incidents near your location and helps investigators get in touch with you in case of a criminal incident near you.
