Uniform Division
Dedicated to the safety and service of all citizens and visitors to Michigan City, the officers and civilian staff of the Michigan City Police Department Uniform Division are lead by Chief of Operations. The Uniform Division is the “back bone” of the Department and the largest Division within the MCPD, often serving as the public’s first point of contact.
Patrol Division
The Uniformed Patrol Division is the most visible part of the Department, operating 24/7 and handling the majority of police services. Officers patrol assigned areas by vehicle or on foot, focusing on law enforcement, crime prevention, emergency response, public assistance, and community safety.
The Uniformed Patrol Division consists of Shift 1, Shift 2, Shift 3 and Traffic Unit. All three shifts operate during the following hours:
- Patrol Shift 1 – 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM
- Patrol Shift 2 – 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM
- Patrol Shift 3 – 10:30 PM – 6:30 AM

Traffic Division
The Traffic Division concentrates its efforts on enforcement in high traffic areas, in areas where traffic complaints are received, and in identified locations where collisions are likely to occur. They accomplish this by speed enforcement, videotaping intersections, patrolling for aggressive drivers, and other various enforcement initiatives. A primary goal for the Traffic Division is the efficient and effective movement of traffic on our roadways.
